Housing Assignment Process

1. Complete the housing application online via the Housing and Dining Portal. The preference section of the application closes Friday, March 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. EST.
   1. Roommate and preference selection closes Friday, April 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. EST.
2. Room placement and roommate information will be shared with students via their Rensselaer email account in late April. 

The Housing Application for First-Year students will open on April 6, 2026, and close on May 29, 2026.

1. Complete the housing application online via the RPI Housing and Dining Portal.
2. Your housing assignment will be based on your roommate(s) and housing preferences.
3. You will receive your room assignment and roommate information through your Rensselaer email RPI Housing and Dining Portal account around late June to early July.

The 2026-2027 Housing Application for returning students will open on April 8, 2026. The preference section of the application will close on April 24, 2026.

1. Complete the housing application online via the RPI Housing and Dining Portal.
2. Your housing assignment will be based on your roommate(s) and housing preferences. Please note that based on availability, you are not guaranteed placement in your requested room or with your requested roommate.
3. You will receive your room assignment and roommate information through your Rensselaer email account around early to mid-June.

Students returning from a leave of absence must first complete the return process and be approved to return to RPI by the Dean of Students Office. Upon approval, returning students will be advised on their housing options.
